Project Overview
Salem Social Service Society (SSSS) aims to uplift 1,160 underprivileged Dalit women across 40 village panchayats in Salem District by providing employable skill development courses. These women, from Dalit Hindu and Catholic backgrounds, face significant socio-economic challenges and limited job opportunities due to lack of trade skills.
Objectives

Enable Dalit women (18+) to overcome poverty and break free from traditional exploitative employment systems.

Support marginalized Dalit women in advancing their livelihoods and establishing enterprises (SMILE initiative).
Skill Training Programmes
- Dairy Farmer Course (8 days)
- Coir Making (6 months)
- Junior Software Developer (3 months)
- Tailoring & Embroidery (6 months)
Training is conducted at Community Skill Development Centres (Skill Hubs) in each block. Upon completion, participants receive certificates and job placement support.
Impact
The project directly benefits 600 youth from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in Salem and Namakkal. Graduates secure employment in companies, industries, and micro-enterprises, enhancing their livelihoods and economic security.
Project Location
Implemented in the underdeveloped blocks of Attur and Gangavalli, Salem District, Tamil Nadu, focusing on socially and economically excluded Dalit communities.
Target Group
880 poor Dalit women—marginalized and distant from mainstream development—are the primary beneficiaries.
